Sandy Stoddard, Lower Ship Harbour Nova Scotia, August , 1952. This song was used for stowing ballast. Mr. Stoddard learned this in Jamiaca , when his ship was loading salt. Women used to carry baskets of salt on their heads and dump it in the hold of the vessel. "They would sing this chantey all day." The other male voice in the recording is famed Nova Scotia author Thomas H. Raddall.
