about

These songs were recorded between 1986 and 1991from one of Nova Scotia's finest traditional singers. Fred Redden (1912-1991) grew up in a family of noted singers and musicians. Throughout his life he carried on the tradition of a capella singing that he first heard during his youth in the tiny community of Lindsay Lake, Halifax County.
This compilation is offered as a tribute to a remarkable singer and the traditions he embodied.

Background on all the songs are contained in the liner notes contained in the PDF file included as a bonus item in this download.

This compilation was originally produced and published by the Fred Redden Society for Traditional Music in collaboration with the Helen Creighton Folklore Society.
